The Nemesis of Creeping Wheat — Aolong

Bromus tectorum is widely recognized as one of the world’s ten most noxious weeds. It exhibits extremely vigorous reproductive capacity, maturing earlier than wheat; a single seed can produce at least 60 seeds in the following year and more than 3,600 seeds by the third year. In China, it occurs regularly and severely in dryland rotation areas across Shandong Province, the Linfen and Yuncheng regions of southern Shanxi, as well as in Henan, Hebei, and northern Jiangsu, significantly reducing wheat yields.

National Pesticide Exchange Conference Gauges Industry Trends

On October 14, the 17th National Pesticide Exchange Conference opened in Shanghai, under the theme “Facing Multiple Industry Challenges Head-On and Pursuing a Path of Green Development.” The conference focused on the promulgation and implementation of new industry regulations, highlighted the transformation and upgrading as well as technological innovation in China’s pesticide industry, and explored avenues for green development within the sector. During the keynote session—the Yangnong Forum—held on October 14, experts noted that China’s pesticide industry is steadily enhancing its innovation capacity, presenting a critical window of opportunity for transformation. Mechanized Production for the “Three Autumns” Enters Its Final Stage

Since the annual “Three Autumns” mechanized production campaign kicked off in early September, localities have ensured adequate deployment of machinery and equipment, implemented orderly organization and dispatch, and provided robust policy support. As a result, key operations—including mechanized corn harvesting, mechanized winter wheat sowing, deep loosening and land preparation with agricultural machinery, and mechanized return-to-field and off-field disposal of crop residues—have progressed rapidly and in an orderly manner, exhibiting new characteristics such as the upgrading of equipment to high-end models, the adoption of green technologies, the socialization of services, and the informatization of management. As of October 24, a total of 540,000 corn combine harvesters had been deployed nationwide, completing mechanized harvesting on 340 million mu of corn—85% of the planned target; mechanized harvesting has also commenced in major rice-producing areas, with 180 million mu of mid-season rice, single-crop rice, and late-season rice now harvested by machine, achieving a mechanization rate of 87%; mechanized sowing of winter wheat has covered 160 million mu, with a mechanization rate exceeding 90%. The national “Three Autumns” mechanized production campaign has now entered its final stage. Nationwide, deep loosening and land preparation have been completed on 110 million mu, representing more than 70% of the target.
